So... I haven't made a decent post since like November... other than my political outburst last week and the random surveys that I occasionally post.... so, I figure it's time for an update.... even though I'm not entirely sure anyone even reads livejournal anymore... oh well, here we go...

Let's see... probably the biggest thing going on right now is that my life (regarding the career aspect) seems to be temporarily derailed at the moment....  I have come to the determination that Poli Sci grad school is not for me... I mean some of it I enjoy a lot, but my interest in politics is so narrow that a lot of it is sooooo super boring to me or just seems like a huge waste of time. This is a minor problem though... there's no way you'll always be interested in everything going on... I can deal.... but the more serious issue is that I am just sooo ready to be at that point in my life where I go to work from 8-5 and have the evening to live my life... I am sooo over going to school all day and then having tons of school shit to do all evening too.... Been there...done that!   So, the solution seems easy enough... quit grad school right??? Well, therein lies the problem! Even though I am now an official member of the WV State Bar and can practice law.... there seems to be a lot of things keeping me from doing that. There are basically two options: get a job with a firm OR practice on my own.... Getting a job with a firm provides the most security and the biggest potential at making money, but there aren't many available attorney jobs in the state and the ones that are available don't want me because "They're republican and I'm not" (this is a real quote from a recent job interview by the way)...  The other option is to practice on my own which would be really cool cause I could actually control what I did and all that.... but space is expensive to rent and if I didn't get business within the first few months, I'd be in BIG trouble! So, this option seems temporarily out of reach.... which brings me back to square one! UGH!

Let's see what else is new.... Not a lot really....  I joined Netflix recently, which I think is one of the best creations ever!!! So we've been getting a lot of good selections in the mail. I should be receive Flightplan today - YAY!

Luckily the spring debate season isn't that busy so I haven't had to travel a whole lot... although it is nice to get out of Morgantown ocassionally. March looks to be a busy month though.... We have a trip to Western Connecticut at the end of February.... then we are hosting a tournament at WVU the following weekend which is going to require tons of work.... then Spring Break is in March (not sure what I'm doing for that yet)... My Mom's birthday which will require a trip back home.... Rod and Steve's B-day (on the same day btw... I still think it' an eerie coincidence that 2 of my favorite people share a b-day).  Then at the end of March/beginning of April, I'll be traveling to Dallas, TX for like a week for a debate tournament.... (this I'm actually excited about - I've never been to TX, so it should be fun times).  So that's my next few months in a nutshell! hehe

I've been pondering  the meaning of friendship for a while now and the one conclusion I've come too is that while you may always be "friends" with someone... that doesn't necessarily mean that you have a lasting role to play in each other's lives. Then there are those friends that will definitely always be in your life no matter where you are and what you're doing.... the trick is to figure out what group someone falls into... which is often hard to do and surprising when you discover that you were wrong! Anyway, this may not seem that prolific to anyone else, but I find it one of the more interesting aspects of human nature.

Wow - this has turned into quite the post... I'd be surprised if anyone actually made it this far. Ok, I'm gonna go find something to eat - Bitch is hungry! Until next time.....

P.S. I love the fact that it's winter but it hasn't really felt like it in weeks!

Ok, so normally I don't use livejournal for political rants... for me, it's usually just a place to put random musings and funny happenings... but today, I was flipping through the TV and stumbled onto Bush giving a speech at Kansas State University. Normally, I would've just kept on going, but today something made me stay on that channel and watch... Maybe it was his inability to form a coherent thought, maybe it was the random jumble of mispronounced words he used to form what he thinks is a sentence, or maybe it was the fact that he was stuttering around like he had been drinking since 6am and acting like no president has ever acted before; he seriously acts like he has no idea how a president is supposed to act, so he just acts like a drunken fratboy... Anyway, so I decided to watch some of him and he was trying to justify why wiretapping without a warrant should be legal and constitutional... (which it's not by the way)... Anyway, of course he used terrorism to justify the whole thing... His entire rhetoric was based on fear: "Someone will attack the American people," "the American people need to be safe in case of an attack," "I'm trying to protect the American people." ----> NEWSFLASH TO BUSH: the people who are attacking us aren't doing so because they inherently hate the American people... they're doing so because they hate you and YOUR policies. If you want to change something... start there! It just really pissed me off; not only because he uses that to justify his dumbass policies, but the American people buy into it. I swear to god, if we make it through the next few years without Bush destroying the country those who voted for him should seriously be thankful because it would be you ignorant, dumbass, closed-minded people who would be to blame....

And nobody else!

Well... I guess it's time for a substantive post... Although I've been noticing that people aren't updating their livejournals the way they used to... could it be that livejournal has lost its popularity??? Hmmm... I'll ponder that question while I do an update myself.

Thanksgiving went by without incident... Went to South Carolina for a few days to visit some sick family members... then spent the rest of the week at my parents where it was insanely hectic since all my family also gathers there for most of the holiday. Anyway, I survived that and came back up to Morgantown yesterday so that Rodney and I could be together for our ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY today!!!! I can't believe it has been one year, but it has and even though there have been ups and downs, it's been a wonderful year and I look forward to many more.

Not much else has happened... the next few weeks are going to be insane with school... hopefully I can find some way to relax and maintain some semblance of sanity. The only thing that I'm looking forward to right now is Christmas... I'm so excited for it! I brought a tree home but we haven't put it up yet - that needs to happen soon!

Alright... I guess that's it for now... Talk to everyone soon hopefully!

So it's been a while since I've used my livejournal to go on a rant... but I think it's time for that. So, the past couple of days I've been havinng a toothache... wasn't pleasant but not so much that I couldn't stand it... then I woke up this morning and it was throbbing so bad I couldn't take it... so I grabbed the phone book and after a few calls found a dentist who could take me today. So I get there, he does an X-ray and tells me that I have to have a root canal because there is my tooth is abscessed and could be dangerous because infection can spread to my brain if untreated.... Then he tells me that it will cost around $800 and that I must pay this upfront if I want to have it done. The only alternative is having the tooth pulled which could also lead to a whole host of difficulties....
Now, here's my rant... I think it is absolutely ridiculous that doctors/hospitals can't refuse emergency treatment to a patient on the basis of inability to pay.... but dentists can! And I'm not talking about refusing to clean your teeth or bleach them out or crap that people can live without... but situations like this mine where the procedure has to be done to prevent something really bad from happening... I think its completely ridiculous that they can basically charge whatever they want and refuse to give you treatment that will affect your overall health unless you can pay.
Something needs to be done to reform this law!
And don't post responses talking to me about how dentistry is different or how dentists deserve the money that they earn... And don't point out that I'm about to be a lawyer who will charge a lot for my services... or I'll be forced to point out that even though lawyers make a lot of money... we are still required to do so much pro bono (FREE) work for people who can't afford it - Dentists Don't come close to this!

UGH!

Nothing really significant enough to warrant an update has happened... but I felt bad for neglecting my journal for so long so I thought I would update anyway.
I guess the most important thing that has happened is that I have returned back to school. After finishing law school, I thought I would never go back ... then the real world beckoned... and I realized that I don't want being a lawyer to be my only option in life... and the fact that I don't find out if I passed the bar exam until late September... prompted me to consider other options.... So here I am... Enrolled in the Political Science Ph.D. program... At first, I thought that this would only be a back-up option for me in case I didn't pass the bar... but the first week of class got me really excited about the program... Even though it is a LOT of reading and a LOT of other work - I am really excited about the prospect of becoming an expert in one area and eventually teaching others at the college level - So, while I can't predict the future, it seems very likely that I will see the program through - A lot of my law school classes are transferring too - so in 3 years time, I should be on the verge of getting a Ph.D. - That's Exciting!

Yesterday, Rodney and I went to Pittsburgh to look around at the malls and so I could look at the Apple store to find a computer that I liked. I enjoyed the trip, but I don't know my way around Pittsburgh and get extremely frustrated driving in that busy traffic - so I was frustrated and hateful for most of the trip... but I had fun nevertheless... and came home with a new Apple Ibook and an IPod... So I've been playing with those all night and all day - I was really nervous about learning to use the Apple... but now that I've gotten sort of comfortable with it, I'm a total Apple fan and I'm so glad I took the risk of getting an Apple - It has sooo much more than a Windows based PC.

Alright, I think that's sufficient for now.... Talk to you all soon!

I was thinking today... I think one of the hardest things about growing older is being let down by people you thought you could always count on.... Making new friends at each part of your life and letting yourself believe that you and those people will always be friends... and that they'll never do anything to disappoint you... Then you're brought back to reality when you realize that some of your friends can't be counted on, can't be trusted, and don't value the friendship the way you do.... Or that they make stupid choices, lose the ambition that made them such a wonderful friend to begin with, or just become blinded by other things..... I think that is one of the hardest lessons of life.

Well... it's over... the bar exam has came and gone! I can honestly say that it was probably one of the worst experiences of my life. Two days of six hour testing in a room in the Charleston Civic Center that was literally 30 below freezing... it was soooo cold! Anyway, I'm not sure how I did - personally, I feel like I did horrible... but everyone seemed to feel that way, so I don't know if my feeling is a fair representation of how I actually did...I should find out by the end of September and by that time, I'll be about a month into grad school so I guess my feelings about that will determine whether I take the test again if I fail. Anyways, lots of free time now so if ya wanna do something- lemme know!
